49ers vs. Packers new Ice Bowl…

MONCLOSEToday the 49ers will play the Packers in the coldest temperatures since 1967 at Lambeau Field. This is one of the NFC wild-card playoff games.
I like both teams. Today’s painting is a portrait of Joe Montana painted on his jersey. Michael Jordan, Mickey Mantle and Joe Montana are the top three requests I have had over my career as a sports artist.

Upper Deck painting

Another in a long list of Michael Jordan projects for Upper Deck Authenticated. This project was painted on 12 inch by 12 inch pieces of the Bulls court floor. I’ve painted on many floor pieces. ImageMichael Jordan art for Upper Deck

LSU football portrait

LSU tiger footballLSU trophy football with portraits of Les Miles painted on it. The football had the LSU printed on it but the ball was white. I added the tiger stripe background. Much better this way.

Portraits of mothers and babies

mother and new baby Mother and babyThe painting of the day is two paintings. A portrait of Alexa and her baby and Kristen and her baby. Alexa was a commission from my “Godmother” Joyce Baier Steensrud. Thank you Joyce. I really enjoyed painting this portrait. Kristen and her baby hung in a gallery in Sacramento, CA. She owns the painting now.

Graphic art for Chama

chama days logo 2013Another shirt design. My Village of Chama celebrates every August with a four day festival called Chama Days. Parades, games, rodeo, carnival, and lots of family and visitors. For the last three years my designs have decorated the shirts. Starts with an idea and ends with a image we can wear. Thanks Terry Corey for the start this year.

Painting a Day, 12-21-13, Michael Irvin

Irvin kids jerseys Irvin sons Michael Elijah espnI’ve started posting a painting, or other art work, on facebook and will post the same on this blog. Most of the work is sports art, portraits of athletes. The post for today is of two paintings of Michael Irvin on Dallas Cowboys 88 jerseys. Michael and Elijah Irvin wore the jerseys at the induction of Michael Irvin into the Football Hall of Fame. ESPN showed the kids on TV, wearing the jerseys I painted.

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,100 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 52 trips to carry that many people.

Atlanta Braves store sold my painted baseballs

I heard from the Atlanta Braves merchandisers this week. The Bobby Cox baseballs are sold and they are ready to get more painted word balls. The Braves are celebrating 10,000 franchise wins. As a SF Giants fan, I’m happy for the Braves but wonder what my Giants are doing… Time to talk to them about paintings too.

Chama Valley Studio Tour & Arts Festival

Another project for me, more marketing but this event is close to my heart.
The Chama Valley Studio Tour is coming up Labor Day weekend.
I’ll have displays of sport art, a painted Michael Jordan jersey, some Manny Pacquiao painted gloves, Tiger Masters Pin Flag plus framed landscapes and portraits in the mix.
Everyone is welcome to this free event. Over 45 artists are represented.

The cover of this year’s brochure is posted here as well as a photo of a Jordan jersey I painted long ago for a great client, Theo. I think he sold this part of his MJ collection so I do not know who owns this jersey now.
